About the Gallery:

Welcome to the Art Gallery of Hugo Warren in Port Alfred, East Cape, South Africa.

The  Gallery initially opened in 1986 when Hugo retired and decided to start painting and met some fellow artists who encouraged him to open an Art Gallery in his Guest House and Conference Centre in Johannesburg.

It was at the time when hunting was at a high in South Africa and we had a connection with the Professional Hunters Association. Once we advertised with them we were inundated with American and German hunters who both stayed in our Guest House and  bought wildlife paintings galore. What a great season.  This dried up when the South African Game farmers got greedy and out -priced themselves, so the overseas hunters went to Namibia and other parts of Africa.

The Gallery has exhibited in various venues and Art Exhibitions over the years, even going to Germany for the South African Tourist Board in 1980’s.

When Hugo moved to Port Alfred in 2001 the Gallery went with him, where he now concentrates on his paintings, mainly acrylic and special effects. He caters for overseas buyers because he works either on canvas which can be rolled up or canvas on board which can fit at the bottom of suitcases without the frame. We can arrange delivery of paintings in their frames as well if required.

The Art Gallery also displays works of other South African and Zimbabwean artists.

The website is a recent acquisition and  very much in its infancy.  We are working on this at present and also displaying European mountain scenes.

We are open daily Monday to Saturday by appointment but if you are in the area please ring the bell at the gate and if we are home we will gladly open for you to view our works.

We recently expanded to the city centre in KNA Stationery Shop at the Duck Pond for convenience as they are open normal shop hours, Monday to Friday 8.30 – 4.30.

Please feel free to contact us about any paintings in which you are interested.
